Daydream

At the beginning of the pandemic, I was forced to an unpredictable trip to Iran. I had such a hard time dealing with some family and work issues besides all the trouble adjusting to new life changes due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

There were days that I had so much emotional challenge to cope with; I realized that subconsciously I have started to use my childhood self-healing mechanism which was daydreaming during rough times. When I was a kid I used to go to the corner of my room and daydream about the things that made me happy to detach myself from some bitter moments of life. I should admit that my wishful thoughts are still very innocent, romantic, and even childish, for example; I wish I was a mermaid so I could swim under the water all the time! I was surprised by how strongly my inner-child imagination helped to lighten my life in that period.

Therefore, I decided visually express my daydreams. 

In contrast to my general large-size multimedia artworks which I usually make in my studio in Toronto, in this series, I simply used drawing with pen on a small piece of paper since those were the only media I had available during my stay in Iran. I developed a unique meditative method of drawing that to this day it becomes a part of my everyday art practice that relieves me from boredom and stress.
